VillaRomane is your French Holiday Home in Antibes Juan Les Pins

Festival, restaurants, activities , Riviera Villas. My own list of recommendations

Antibes is famous for its old picturesque city. It is a good place for families. You will find a lot of restaurants and  various activities all along the year. in Antibes and nearby.  You'll find on my blog news about specific events but my own permanent recommandations are the following :

Cultural activities : visit Picasso Museums in Antibes and Vallauris., Fernand Leger Museum in Biot, Matisse museum and Musée d'Art Moderne in Nice where you'll discover a permanent exhibition of Nicky de Saint Phalle masterpieces.

Music : There are a lot of  festival during summer. The most famous one are

-Jazz à Juan during second half of July (www.jazzajuan.com), Nice Jazz Festival during second half of July (http://www.nicejazzfestival.fr) , Les Nuits du Sud in Vence  during July (https://www.nuitsdusud.com) but you will find a lot of others organized freely from June to October by the public authorities (https://soirees-estivales.departement06.fr/) or others on La Stada  (https://www.facebook.com/journal.lastrada)

Discos :  The most famous one around is le Gotta in Cannes (http://gotha-club.com/). The best best DJs are there. Also consider la Siesta in Antibes with its unique outside dance floor. Smaller discos for very young teenagers can also be found in Juan Les Pins

Activities for families with children  :  go to Marineland (www.marineland.fr) the largest marine theme park in Europe. Dolphins, Sharks, Killer whales, .... A whole day if you decide to combine with other parks in the area (AquaSplash for example).

If you go to Nice and have yound children you can spend an hour or two on La promenade du Paillon https://www.nice.fr/fr/parcs-et-jardins/la-promenade-du-paillon just next to the old Nice. There are a lot games of children and also hundreds of water jets where kids will like to play.

Dream about your future yacht : Antibes harbor is the biggest leisure harbour in Europe (I am not sure, this is what they say...). But what is sure is it is really big and you will see there the biggest private yachts in the world. These yachts are often more than 100 meters long with a helicopter on board sometimes.... Follow the walls on your right when you face the harbor and you will reach the "billionaire wharf". First take a look at the remarkable statue "Le Nomade" of Plensa on top of the walls just before arriving at the billionaire wharf.

Visiting : Visit Nice of course, Monaco and Cannes may be. Also consider a day to visit the old perched villages around. Eze, Saint Paul de Vence and  Gourdon are the most famous one. But you can also go to Biot and its famous glass blowers and Tourette sur Loup which is so cosy. If you go in direction of Monaco, spend a few hours visiting ending Villa Ephrussi and Villa Kerylos in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, two of the most interesting Riviera Villas.

Restaurants : This is my own selection. I promise I don't have any share in any of them ....

Top level

  • Les Terraillers (one star Michelin) : http://www.lesterraillers.fr/ . In Biot (the village where I live) in an old Potery. 15 minutes by car from the Villa.

Good level

  • Les vieux murs  :  http://www.lesvieuxmurs.com/fr/ in the historical center of Antibes, next to Picasso Museum. Sea view. 15 minutes on foot from the house. Voiturier.

Every day / good quality ratio

  • Restaurant Bar à vins, Tapas : 2 Boulevard Edouard Baudoin, Juan Les Pins. 10 minutes on foot from the villa. lunch menu 16€ Main course + 1 glass of wine  (or a beer) + Dessert. The best quality price ratio of the beach.

  • Garden beach hotel restaurant : 15-17 Boulevard Edouard Baudoin, Juan Les Pins. Good service and a good lunch menu Main course + one glasse of wine + dessert at 24€

  • A lot of good restaurants along the beach in Juan Les Pins. Not especially cheap (like everything here...) but on the beach in front of Lerins islands it is a nice place to be.

Special typical places where to eat  in Nice

When you'll go to Nice I recommend you to go to lunch in one of these two very typical "restaurants" in the old  Nice (no booking). It is a kind of typical fastfood. But no junk food here. Only local dishes. First you queue to order, then you seat and wait until you are called to get your dishes. You'll probably be seated next to people you don't know. As you understand there is a minimum of services but it is very very typical. Price is around 7€ /person.
My recommendation : Start with a plate of local "Socca" (one for two is enough) it is a kind of very thin cheakpea pan cake, then "petits farcis niçois" (stuffed onions, stuffed zuchinis and stuffed tomatoes), then finish with a local "Tourte aux blettes" as dessert (one for two is enough)

  • The best one is "Chez René Socca" : 2 Rue Miralheti, 06300 Nice

  • The other one is "Lou Pilha Leva" 10 Rue du Collet, 06300 Nice
